Short report 2017

"It could be me-It could be you”

A’ Semester 2017 Short Report 

(January to June 2017)

From 1 January to 30th of June 2017, more than 5800 students from 150 schools were involved in over 457 workshops and 7 School Festivals, more than 2500 teachers were trained in over 41 long or short training seminars in collaboration with over 70 organizations of local communities (Local Education Authorities, Municipalities, Host Centers, Universities et.),

 

More specifically,

  • Teacher Training Seminars - Workshops

303 teachers of primary and secondary education and youth facilitators and other members of  human rights organizations in Athens, Xanthi, Serres, Volos, Larissa, Trikala, Tripoli and other cities received training on the use of experiential learning tools to promote human rights, refugee protection and diversity in the class, through 9 targeted seminars of 20-hour duration. (Action 1a)

699 teachers of primary and secondary education and youth facilitators and other members of human rights organizations in Athens, Thessaloniki, Trikala, Patras, Pyrgos, Lesvos, Larissa, Ioannina, Nafplio, Tyrnavos, Elassona, Itea, Kilkis, Rodos, Elefsina and other cities received training on the use of experiential learning tools to promote human rights, refugee protection and diversity in the class, through 32 targeted short workshops or keynotes at conferences of 2 to 4-hour duration. (Action 1b)

  • Students' networks

1084 students of primary and/or secondary education in Athens, Thessaloniki, Trikala, Patras, from 34 schools, are part of the “It could be me-It could be you” National School Network and were involved in a series of specifically targeted interactive workshops. 213 such interactive workshops were conducted and offered by theatre/drama pedagogues.(Action 2a1).

1127 students of primary and/or secondary education in Larissa, Volos, Karditsa, Xanthi, Serres,  Ioannina, Kerkyra, Kalamata and other cities from 51 schools are part of the he “It could be me-It could be you” Local School Network and were involved in a series of specifically targeted interactive workshops. 124 such interactive workshops were conducted and offered by theatre/drama pedagogues. (Action 2a2).

  • Students' Workshops

2386 students and 135 teachers of primary and/or secondary education in several cities were involved in interactive workshops based on UNHCR’s and TENet’s educational materials ( “Skliro Karydi”, “Passages”, “I-You-We”, “Irini”, “Monologues” etc).  113 such interactive workshops were conducted and offered by theatre/drama pedagogues in 71 schools. (Action 2b)

  • Facilitators and Trainers Seminars

9 Local Contacts in 9 regional towns received training to be able to support Local Networks (see Action 2a), expand and disseminate the project in their towns. 26 such training meetings of 72 hours in total took place. (Action 3a1). Another 74 training seminars/workshops of 342 hours in total took place for 188 new and old facilitators.

At least 62 trainers and members of the project personnel participated in  reflective seminars and meetings on issues such as briefings and updates on current refugee issues, adult education methodology, evaluation techniques, current intercultural approaches etc. Experts from the country were invited to take part in these meetings and share experience from other countries too.3 such seminars/meetings of 24 hours in total were organized. (Action 3b)

  • Interactive Performances & Theatre-in-Education Projects 

993 students, teachers, parents, refugee children and members of local communities in Athens, Thessaloniki, Trikala, Larissa, Lesvos and Ioannina took part in 26 interactive performances (including the play “the multicolour immigration of the butterfly” created by this Project in 2016) to debate stereotypes and beliefs on issues related to human rights, co-existence and  refugees. (Action 4)

  • «Monologues across the Aegean Sea"

1546 students and 1900 teachers, parents and members from local community from 52 schools in Athens, Thessaloniki, Trikala, Patras, Ioannina, Kalamata and Corfu collectively presented their work based on the book “Monologues across the Aegean Sea” in 7 targeted Festivals on the occasion of the “International Monologues Action Day 2017”. (Action 5)

  • Together

223 students from local and refugee populations in Athens were involved in 7 activities, in the framework of the action“together” through workshops, museum or performance visits, street happenings etc. The action aims to create opportunities for the meeting of cultures, ice breaking between the two populations, fighting of fear and racism, while helping the refugee population not to feel marginalized. (Action 6)
